Sermons by Andrew McCausland (Page 2)
Over the next few weeks we will be learning more about the Holy Spirit. On 12th May Andrew introduced this series. He reminded us about the importance of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came to the first disciples and he spoke about the importance of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers today.
HE IS RISEN! On this special Sunday, Andrew retold the story of the first Easter Sunday with the help of a missing Easter Egg….
Andrew used the account of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to remind us we are called to be a people of praise. We discussed why and how others have tried to stop the church from praising and witnessing over the years. And we also discussed what might stop us declaring God’s love to the communities in which we live.
On 7th April we held a special service to open the new front of the church building, and to rededicate ourselves. We were delighted to be joined by some of the builders, designers and other crafts-people who had made the new front possible. Outside on the patio Andrew reminded us that our building is a gift from God, a tool which God has placed into our hands to enable us…
On 17th March Andrew spoke from 1 Peter chapter 1, and concentrated specifically on the reasons which Peter gives for why we should be holy.
On March 10th Andrew continued our series on “becoming children of God” by speaking from Peter’s second letter, chapter 1. He spoke about how we can seek to become more like Jesus in this life.
On 17th February Andrew picked up on one of the points introduced by Chris last week, and asked how do we really commune with God?
On 3rd February Andrew started a new series which will take us through the next few months: “Becoming children of God”. The talk starts with a reading from Philippians 2 v5-16.
On 27th January we celebrated our links with the Holistic Gospel Church in northern Ghana which was formed as a result of the faithful work by Rosemary and Geoffrey Hunt amongst the Hanga people in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Andrew gave a summary of a recent visit to Ghana, and then Geoffrey, Tim and Marion and Chris Justice gave their reflections.
On Christmas Day Andrew spoke about the “earth-rise” which the crew of Apollo 8 had seen, 50 years ago this Christmas. He went onto talk about how God loved this world so much that he had sent his only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but shall have eternal life. Happy Christmas!
